ST GEORGE’S STREET IMPROVEMENT WORKS

16 December 2022

Canterbury City Council is soon to begin major improvement works at St George’s Street.
The proposed works will extend between Rose Lane and Canterbury Lane, and will include the replacement of the existing paving and the creation of new space for small events and other activities.

The existing mature trees are to be retained, with one new semi-mature tree being added to enhance the street scene further. KCC will be undertaking maintenance work on all the trees prior to the start of the main construction work. New street furniture, benches and planters will be installed as a part of the works, and street lighting will be upgraded to reduce the number of dark areas created by the trees.

It will be necessary to close sections of St George’s Street in order to safely carry out the works; diversion routes will be in place, and will be signed carefully. Businesses Open as Usual signs will also be erected.
We will try to minimise any disruption, but apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by the works.

Canterbury City Council will send out further information regarding the start date and phasing of the works in early January.
