Get to know your local…

Has lockdown had you reaching for the scissors for a home haircut? Or have you been tempted you to colour it yourself? We’ll be setting our alarm clocks early to bag ourselves an appointment when salons reopen. Expect some bragging rights from those lucky enough to get booked in first!

In the meantime, we have been chatting with the owner of a fabulous city centre hair salon Stone Hairdressing. Business owner Lea Walters tells us a little more about her salon in Marlowe Avenue, opposite Watling St car park.

Tell us a little bit about Stone Hairdressing

I opened Stone Hairdressing in 1999.  Originally from Maidstone, I fell in love with Canterbury and its quaint lanes and independent shops.

Why did you choose Canterbury to open your business?

I stumbled across the shop and knew it would make the perfect salon with its big windows and parking directly opposite, my dream was realised.

What are you looking forward to most after lockdown?

The Team are really excited to get back to doing what they love and creating beautiful hair.

What has kept you busy over lockdown?

We have been keeping busy during the lockdown with lots of online courses giving us inspiration to share with our customers on their return.

How will you keep your customers safe on their return?

Many things have changed for us this year. The salon is now open longer hours so we can safely limit the number of people in at one time. We are lucky to have a large space over two floors so social distancing is easy to maintain. Each stylist now has their own position, and this is sanitized thoroughly after every customer.

We now use disposable towels, and gowns are washed at a high temperature after every use so you can be assured there is no cross contamination. We serve our refreshment menu in disposable cups and have you will have access to over 70 magazines to read on your phone or tablet with our subscription to Digimags.

Our staff all wear visors and masks and customers are required to wear masks too. The team have adapted well to this new way of working and our priority this year has been to keep our customers and team safe.

We are communicating with our customers during lockdown via email and our social media platforms.

How can customers support you right now?

To help our salon during these difficult times, please follow us on Facebook @StoneHairdressing and Instagram @stone_hairdressing. Share and comment on our posts.  You will find lots of hair inspiration and important salon information on our social media platforms.

We also accept The Canterbury Gift Card – so why not treat yourself to some hair TLC with yours ?

We can’t wait to welcome you back soon.
