We were delighted to host the 2018 Christmas Switch-on on Friday 16th November in St George’s Street. Guest presenters Jamie and Becky from Heart FM were joined by musicians Catherine Cassell, Peter Smith, Ruby May and Marylebone Jelly to entertain the audience of approximately 5,000 people.
The event also featured a snow machine and a guest appearance from the cast of Cinderella. The Christmas Market launched the same day and stayed open until 8pm to keep visitors in the city centre. Canterbury City Council and Stagecoach provided free Park & Ride between 3pm-9pm.
We have received reports that the market remained busy throughout the evening and local businesses enjoyed a roaring trade.
We would like to thank Big Plan Group for their work on this event, the audience for coming to join us on a rather foggy evening, and a special thanks to the Marlowe Theatre Cast who spent an additional 30 minutes meeting and greeting their audience after the switch-on took place.
