Canterbury’s Christmas season launched in spectacular style last week with our most exciting Light Switch-On yet!

✨ 4 magical switch-on locations
✨ 12 themed locations packed with entertainment & activities
✨ Nearly 7 miles of sparkling lights provided by Gala Lights Ltd
✨ Christmas Market in 3 locations
🎄 🎁 🎄 and the amazing business community in Canterbury with gorgeous festive windows and so much on offer for your Christmas shopping and entertainment!

The BID team and our amazing partners worked their festive socks off to encourage exploration and celebration throughout the city. Highlights included:

🎭 The Marlowe Theatre panto stars lighting up the theatre’s very first switch-on, alongside the time-honoured Primark balcony location in Whitefriars.

🎁 Twilight Christmas Market at the Westgate Hall

🎶 Brass bands, carol singers and Dickens performances bringing Christmas cheer to every corner.

🎅 Santa, Frozen characters, singalong screenings and creative workshops keeping families entertained all evening.

🎄Live music in all the Christmas market locations – Whitefriars, Canterbury Cathedral and St George’s St.

🛷 Brilliant selfie locations including a Golden Sleigh with elves from Mind in Bexley and East Kent.
