DESCRIPTION:Canterbury City Council is carrying out a Community Governance Review (CGR) to assess how local areas are represented and whether current arrangements still work. \n\nWhy it matters\n\nLocal government is set to change\, with Kent County Council and Canterbury City Council expected to be replaced by a single new council within the next two years.\nExisting parish councils will remain\, but:\n\nCanterbury\, Whitstable and Herne Bay currently have no parish councils\nWithout changes\, they will be represented only by the new single authority\n\n\n\nWhat’s being considered\n\nWhether Canterbury should have its own town/parish council\nWhether changes are needed to existing parish boundaries or councillor numbers\n\nHave your say\nBusinesses\, residents and organisations can share views to help shape future local representation. \n\nDeadline: Sunday 5 July 2026\nEmail: consultations@canterbury.gov.uk\nOnline survey: via Canterbury City Council website\n\nWhat happens next\n\nFeedback will inform draft proposals (Stage 2 consultation)\nFinal decisions will follow after further consultation
