2017 Christmas Review

Springboard’s 2017 Christmas Review has just been published, it features footfall, sales and online data and shows exactly what happened over the Christmas period. Whilst many of the trends are challenging, one very helpful statistic is that 4 out of 5 transactions remain store-based (source: Office of National Statistics).

“It is now clear that the Christmas trading period as we used to know it has shifted in shape, moving forward to encompass Black Friday, with a lessening in importance of Boxing Day as a key shopping day.” – Springboard

This free overview from Springboard includes data for Black Friday, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day along with insights into how bricks and motor stores performed around Christmas.

We know the Christmas period was challenging for some traders in Canterbury and we are keen to work with you to promote the various “quarters” of the city as destinations for locals and visitors alike throughout the year. We have supported The Kings Mile traders and, more recently, the newly formed Cathedral Quarter.

We are also reviewing the footfall and sales performance data we collect for Canterbury. We have already appointed a company called Mendo to deliver turnover analysis and comparisons for UK town, cities and BID areas.
